If you know us at all, we’re known as the family who lives and breathes hockey… and when I say hockey, I mean roller hockey because that’s all we have in our neck of the woods. My husband plays and even coaches, so we get asked a lot about skates that work for beginners all the way up to the adults. We can finally say that we have found a great pair of beginner skates for kids that start at size 11 youth from K2. My three year old finally has mastered skating like a pro in the Sk8 Hero X Boa skate available from K2. It’s the easiest skate I’ve ever put on and tightens and loosens easily, which is absolutely essential (in my opinion) when it comes to youth sized skates. An appropriate fit is SO important because if they’re too big kids can’t stay stable, so typically you want to size down in skates. These are a size 11 – the smallest size you can wear and fit PERFECT for him. They feature no ties, but a dial that you turn to tighten them to the desired fit. If you need to take them off, pull the dial out and they become loose. My 3 year old can do it with ease and gets these on and off all on his own, making them the perfect beginner skates for kids. These are also adjustable, so as your child’s foot grows you are able to keep the same skate (saving you money) and keep the right fit. Don’t let your kiddo sit on the sidelines – this little guy has grown up watching his father and siblings take to the rink and he couldn’t wait any longer. He already has his hockey gear and is ready. Even if your not a roller hockey family, skating is a lot of fun and having a great pair of skates makes it even better. K2 carries other styles and products for inline and ice skating, so visit their website for more information.
