Are you thinking about a new vehicle in the new year? We’ve been hearing a lot about the Mazda CX-9 and all that it offers, well let me share with you what I (a mom of five) thought after test driving the 2016 Mazda CX-9 Signature All Wheel Drive for a week.
First off we got this beginning of December so we were right in the midst of weather change. My first thought was “woah, it’s really small & she’s so pretty.” The body style is sharp, the machine gray is gorgeous and the Auburn interior is by far my favorite color interior of all the vehicles we’ve tested. The all wheel drive is fantastic, especially living rural and needing to get wherever I want, even when my lane is a mess.
As I said, I really like the body style of the 2016 Mazda CX-9 with the machine gray, 20-inch alloy wheels. Features a push-button start, rain-sensing windshield wipers and rear intermittent wiper, LED signature grills, rear roof spoiler, adaptive front lightening, which kind of took me by surprise but was really pretty cool among so many other things.
So many great features on the exterior & I love that though this vehicle seats up to seven, you’d never guess it by the outside. It’s a quick pick up, kind of like driving a smaller sporty car & easy to handle even in the snow.
The interior is that beautiful auburn leather seats with throughout with a beautiful rosewood and aluminum trim. I was easily able to fit four car seats in the CX-9 as well – two in back and two in front (when needed.) There is a middle console that can be pulled down, allowing for only four seats in the back, which has cup holders and storage available. What you can’t see (because it’s nearly impossible to take photo’s in the dark) is just how much illumination the 2016 Mazda CX-9 has. It glows and lights up beautifully, without distraction. The color mount display is unlike others I’ve driven, a great spot for your navigation, bluetooth, a great little multi-function commander control, that’s touch screen while not driving. I really liked the BOSE speaker system, which made everything sound fantastic. I know some didn’t like the controls in the middle, the set up, but it didn’t bother me at all and I liked how it was all laid out and easy to use. My only beef was the cup holders were in a awkward position for easy grabbing.
Completely different from anything else I’ve driven yet with the 2016 Mazda CX-9 was the active driving display. A little mirror/display in the top of the dash reflects right out into your windshield (see above) so you can see what your speed is, the speed limit, the lanes flash (or you can have the wheel vibrate or beep) when you’re crossing when you shouldn’t. My husband thought it was a bit distracting, but we both got used to it after a day or so of driving and I missed it when I gave the Mazda back. As for storage, if you have all seats up (for seven passengers) the Mazda CX-9 really doesn’t allow for much space for luggage or even getting groceries. It’s possible and I got a light load with a few things which was fine, but much more would have been difficult. However, if you lay the seat(s) down you have great space & it does allow for a split seat lay down which is nice. Overall we had a fun time driving the 2016 Mazda CX-9 – we were all able to fit and nobody complained someone was touching them. A few things though, if you’re a big family. This would be fine as an extra vehicle, but the very rear does not allow for much leg space (my eleven year old had a hard time with his leg size) and the middle, where you see my daughter sitting, is okay for short trips, but not everyday.
Definitely check out the Mazda CX-9, it’s a great vehicle if you have two children and want something with extra space & looks sharp. A big thanks to the guys of Drive Shop for letting us have some fun in the Mazda CX-9!
